Wilson and Alroy's Record Reviews We listen to the lousy records so you won't have to.

Year In Review: 2011

In a year that saw social protest dominate the headlines (well, at least in the brief intervals between sex scandals), it's perhaps not surprising that the two best records of the year were explicitly political while being intensely personal. Also, this was the year music writers started calling everything with distorted guitars and crappy vocals "black metal."

We don't list top singles, but I want to give a special award to Öykü Gürman's "Kuşluk Vakti" - Anatolia's answer to "Red Hot Mama." We've also commented (via our #FirstListenFridays feature) on 2011 releases from the following artists: Adele, Jhene Aiko, Zeynep Akbaba, Animals As Leaders, Blut Aus Nord, Bon Iver, The Book Of Mormon, Breakdown Of Sanity, Le Butcherettes, CSS, Sibel Can, Dum Dum Girls, Glasvegas, Anthony Hamilton, Iceage, Metin & Kemal Kahraman, Krallice, Lady Gaga, Machine Head, Mastodon, Scotty McCreery, Nebulous, Nefes, Neuraxis, Sevcan Orhan, Red Fang, Ximena Sariñana, Rahul Sharma, Smith Westerns, Telekinesis, Times New Viking, Trap Them, Vampillia, Vivian Girls, The Weeknd and Zara.
